This Trifari orb brooch originates from the 1953 Trifari “coronation jewels” collection, created to mark the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. Predating Vivienne Westwood’s iconic orb motif, the design was inspired by the royal orb from the British Crown Jewels. The piece features red, white, and blue glass stones combined with imitation pearls, all set in gilt metal. The cross is accented with a square-cut green glass stone at its center, encircled by pavé-set white rhinestones. The reverse is signed “Trifari.”
Modeled after the Sovereign’s Orb from the Crown Jewels, this design symbolizes Christ’s authority over the world, represented through the cross and globe motif.
Gustavo Trifari, born into a family of goldsmiths, emigrated from Italy to the United States at the beginning of the 20th century. He established the Trifari company in 1912, where he became known for producing high-quality costume jewellery.
